Not Sure If Wood is Right For You?

Because wood has a habit of expanding and contracting due to changes in climate, some folks wonder if wooden doors in Prince George are suitable for our environment. They are, but there are some questions you may want to ask:

  • Do I have anything hanging over or covering my entrance?
  • Will my door be facing south or north?
  • How high above sea level is my property?
  • Do my wood materials come from a more humid climate?

If you’re installing a wooden door made in BC in Alberta, for example, you will need to dry the door out to around 7% and remove weatherstripping and hardware. You will also have to seal the door properly and carefully follow both the door and the finishing manufacturers’ instructions. Furthermore, some manufacturers will not offer warranty for a door if it is stained dark and facing south.

If you’re thinking about installing a new wooden door in Prince George, be sure to consult a professional. AWG Custom Doors can help you find a wood species suitable for your property and give you the resources you need to ensure your door lasts as long as possible.
